I truly enjoyed this book. It grabbed me from the start, was a quick believable read. Isabelle and Ella are two women born 4 centuries apart with a last name in common. When Ella travels to France, she decides to do a bit of genealogical research and winds up meeting her past and redesigning her future. Chevalier brought the stories of these two women, connected through many generations of Tournier's, to life with vibrancy and believability. Certainly Isabelle's life was harsh and joyless, very sad. Ella, in the 21st Century had so many more options. A very good read, indeed.
