Swift but informative overview of the subject. Compared with White's similar work on Protestant Worship, this volume is much more cohesive as it focuses on a singular movement rather than the smaller movements within Protestantism. White's treatment of each period is well organized, demonstrating how each era changed in architecture, church calendar, sacraments, mass, preaching, music, and private devotion.

At the moment, for me the two most interesting takeaways: in spite of the mandates of Trent that lasted over four centuries, there was still marked changes depending on the prevailing culture inside and outside the Church; and that part of that influence was fueled by Protestant movements, especially post Second Vatican Council.
