Sharp Objects

Completely sucked in by the second paragraph. Flynn has a way with words, with images, with place, with character. Camille, less-than-ace reporter speaking of her home town:
"Now its biggest business is hog butchering. About two thousand people live there. Old money and trash."
"Which are you?"
"I'm trash. From old money."
How can you not love it?
Round about page 43 the idea struck me. "It's the mother, Camille's mother." Don't know where it came from . . . the dollhouse? The fact that she puts me in mind of my Auntie Olga? No idea. Just popped into my head before anyone said anything about a woman snatching the girl. Now, this idea can be, surely is, completely off-mark. But there's something about this book. [And I won't tell you later, either, about the mother. No spoilers.] Gotta go. Got lots more to read. Notice the lack of actual sentences. As I said, there's something about this book.
What a great book this is! The mystery; the characters; the nasty little town; the writing. Flynn presents a wonderful mix of that which typifies the genre and the totally unexpected. I sure hope she's quick with that second book of hers!

Thought you’d be struck by this one, and you were. Yeah, let’s hope the author hurries up with her next book.

I've just requested both Gone Girl and Dark Places from Miami-Dade Public Library. The new one has a ton of requests, so when I finally get it, assuming I don't lose patience and buy it, it will come as a delightful surprise. Cool, no? And thank you, Gio, for reminding me about this wonderful author.
Dark, disturbing, twisted, shocking, etc. Yeah! Great book. Now I've probably got to reread the darned thing!
