What a strange and wonderful book. Basically, Miranda July puts off writing a script by finding people selling things in the Pennysaver and going to interview them. A transgender woman selling her old (men's) leather jacket. A woman selling a hairdryer she got in middle school in the '70s.

Into these vignettes is woven the story of her trying to finish this script and how these experiences change and warp the story.

I've rated the book five stars because I enjoyed it and, really, I was captivated by it, but it's not perfect. July sometimes presents these people objectively or even sympathetically or warmly, but other times it feels slightly like she's holding them up for your judgement.
