it was amazing

I picked up this book just because I had never seen any historical fiction about New France before. Slightly put off by the title, and expecting a wishy-washy romance, I was incredibly suprised to find such a bleak and oftern times dark tale.
The story follows Laure as she goes from living in the salpetriere hospital to having to retain her sanity while stuck in what barely passes as shed for an entire Quebec winter on her own. Believable, and an incredible supplement that provides a great view point about the little researced Filles du Roi, the Bride of New France is a great read for those who can appreciate how appropriate the bleak tone is for the novel.
