This is actually a better book than you think. Many people don't like it, as it has a gothic tone. The heroine, Kate has a lot of commonsense. She's also got a good sense of humor, which she needs in this story. She's been turned off as a governess, & is "rescued" by her Aunt. She finds when she arrives at her Aunt's house she has a cousin Torquil, who has a laundry list of pyschiatric problems. It isn't long before you figure out WHY her Aunt rescued her. A nice read for a gloomy Sunday afternoon!
