I thought the book The Vanishing Game by Kate Kae Myers was an alright book. I didn't really like it because it was very confusing. In the book the main character Jocelyn, who has a brother named Jack "dies". I put quotes around dies because it doesn't appear that he is actually dead. He sends Jocelyn a surprise letter from him a couple days after he dies filled with clues that are very confusing. The letter sends her and her brother's best friend Noah, on a wild goose chase all over there hometown. There's a lot of small details that are important and they made my brain feel tired when I was reading those parts. There was a lot to follow and keep track of.
Jocelyn and Noah are constantly being reminded of their horrible foster care home past by the clues that he is leaving. To add to this, they are attacked by these mysterious figures that want to find something that Jocelyn doesn't even know that she has. Noah, Jack and Jocelyn grew up under the control of an abusive and cruel foster mom and they are still scarred when they look back on their past. It makes going through with some of the clues that Jack has left for them hard to remember, both physically and mentally.
The end of the book was the most confusing part. Apparently Jack actually died long before all of this happened. Since she and Jack were twins, Jocelyn was so devastated by him dying that she took over his personality and she became Jack without anyone knowing. She left herself and Noah all of the clues because she wanted to keep the "Jack" inside of her alive. Much of the book was very confusing to me and hard to follow.
