I'll get it out of the way and say that I was entertained by this book. It took awhile for me to really get going on it, but once I did I was engrossed and often times found myself unable to put it down. I picked it up out of necessity as I was tired of hearing everyone rant and rave and talk about this book constantly.
That being said, the story itself was a bit weak, the writing is pretty poor, adn the fact that most of my friends who can't even read a magazine list it as their favorite book and some literary achievement is enough for me to say its more than a tad bit OVERRATED. Also, for the entire story to be so straightforward and the link between items along the "adventure" being so clear, for the ending to be a philosophy is a total letdown. However, at the end of the day, I guess I was just another of the countless victims to its success, so perhaps it should get more stars for perhaps, more than any other book in recent memory, doing its job.
Hopefully that did...more
