I probably wouldn't have read this all the way through were I not interested in Vladimir's relationship with his younger brother Sergey, whose presence echoes throughout this meandering story of a man writing a biography of his recently deceased half-brother. There are some great lines and paragraphs, interesting meta devices and some good insights, but unfortunately this book is often very boring.
