The thing that stood out for me in this book is how every character does things that are totally shitty but also completely realistic -- they are still figuring it all out. Emily, in particular, has no right to be sympathetic at all, and yet I felt for her even while I hated what she was doing to Jesse. Also, Jesse's parents frequently made me laugh out loud. This was a very warm, sweet, complicated, hopeful, realistic book about letting go of your first relationship, being true to yourself, figuring out how to stand up for what you believe in, and lots more. Also, I'm a sucker for LGBT-themed books that aren't focused on coming out -- this book adds some new stories to the mix of what's available for LGBT teens.
