So you read the blurb on the jacket and think "Teen beauty queens crash land on a deserted island. This is gonna be 'Lord of the Flies', but with girls." And you would be wrong...

The set-up is marginally insane - reality TV anyone? And things just keep getting weirder. But somehow it's no stranger than something like My Super Sweet 16 or Jersey Shore. Probably because everything is brought to you by The Corporation, commercial breaks and all.

I loved the format - it reminded me of channel surfing through A&E, TLC, MTV and all those other specialty channels late at night. There was there was a manic, "I'm awake at 3am and don't know what to do," energy to it.

Not as funny as Going Bovine, but Beauty Queens did have some pretty good, laugh-out-loud, kinda moments.
