Took a while, but finally I finished this ARC win! Historical mystery is not a genre I typically read, so that may have been part of the problem. The pace was rather slow for me, with some of the threads of the story more compelling than others. I actually remember picking up a copy of the first book in this series (I think this is the second one) and not being able to finish it because of the slow pace and because the characters were not quite vivid enough. I think all the right elements are there, it just needs a bit more zip and a little more character development. I was drawn in to the story thread involving Jocasta and the street kids, and this part of the story stood out more than the main thread and characters.
