What a fun adventure! Mary is a likable character who is inventive in getting just what she wants. She truly comes of age in this book and all of the talk of female body changes might turn off boy readers. (Which is too bad because the story is great!)

Summary: Reduced to begging and thievery in the streets of London, a thirteen-year-old orphan disguises herself as a boy and connives her way onto a British warship set for high sea adventure in search of pirates.
