What a way to start off 2013! This was really a wonderful book.

Cutting for Stone is the story of twin boys, Marion and Shiva, born of an illicit relationship between a nun and a surgeon in a mission hospital in Ethiopia. There were so many things to love about this story: the escapism of reading about an exotic place, the fascination of reading about medicine, the intrigue of mystery, the fierce love of adoptive parents, the mysticism of the relationship between identical twins and their unique way of both devastating and redeeming each other...

A+. Highly recommend.
