I never quite liked the narrator enough. And he and his love interest(s) were very un-likable; one of those instances where you wonder why they're such a big deal. There was also the annoying habit of the author showing us something like it was important, or WOULD be important later, and then never following through. Why the puppets and masks? Just to show us how quirky these characters are? Or was that supposed to be some deep commentary on the characters' lives? Failure, either way.
It was a quick, short read anyway, and while I saw the ending coming a mile away, I suppose it was satisfying enough. Really though, the short glimpses/passages from the France books were what most intrigued me. Wish there had been more of those.
