Rex Monk This book is hard work. You'll rarely encounter more than a full page of prosaic writing. Most of the time he's busy trying to create a realistic LSD experience for the reader, and it's very effective (mind you, never having tried acid, I can't testify to his accuracy). Nonetheless, you certainly feel like you're there, experiencing the trip with the various characters.

I like his reluctance to let us in on HIS impression of the Pranksters. There were times when I thought he was completely taken in by their world view. Other times it seemed he pitied them.

I've not read any other Wolfe books, but I'd say his writing is very strong. Sadly this book, despite his talent (or because of it?) is cumbersome.
