There seem to be a lot of different opinions on whether or not "Debt of Bones" is a decent book. It's not a decent book; it's a nifty novella.

At first I thought I wasn't going to rate it 4 stars, mostly because I would have liked the action scenes to have been described more thoroughly. Like Goodkind tends to do in his big novels. But then I realized that "Debt of Bones" is not a book, it's a short story. And short stories are supposed to be short.

In fact, now that I've fully realized that this novella only counts 127 pages, I'm surprised that Goodkind managed to treat such an heavy question (what is more important: an individual life or the lives of many? would you save one person if this meant dooming hundreds of people?) in so little pages. Hats off to that.
