This book bears comparison with Catcher in the Rye and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. It is the story of an eight year-old boy who is unjustly sent to a mental institution in America in the late 1950s. On its original release the book did not do well because it was marketed as a Young Adult book which does not do the book justice as it will have a much broader appeal.

The French however really took to the book and its author is well known there; he has received literary honours and they have even made the book into a film. It really deserves a wider audience. You can read an in depth review on my website.
