"I am Money. Money, Mississippi." There you have the narrator of this powerful, even mystical book. Is it possible to write a love story about Emmett Till? Bernice L. McFadden has done it. Emmet's lover Tass leaves Money after the obscene crime and trial. Years later, she returns to discover "the lines of communication between the here-and-now and the beyond are now open." This book has been compared to Morrison's Beloved; mostly for its plain-as-day supernatural elements. Although not as grand (most of us aren't as grand as Ms. Morrison), it's also a formidable achievement that reminds us "that an evil act can ruin generations, and gestures of love and kindness will survive forever."
