Chad A great book about rugged individualism that used to be part of the American character, but is still found in Texas. Charlie Flagg is a stubborn but thoughtful character who refuses to quit, even in squishy modern times when it's easier to let the "It Takes A Village" type mentality over.

It's got everything in it that makes a great novel, man vs. nature, man vs. man and even man versus an intrusive and corrupt government bureaucracy (Kelton pulls no punches about his views on the federal government). This book is probably more relevant today than ever, it reminds me of a cross between Ayn Rand and John Steinbeck.
