Very good plot, very VERY good plot. 5 stars for that alone. Ancient Rome is one of my favorite era's in history.
However, there seemed to be some kind of disconnect. Firstly The cover seems to suggest it's some kinda trashy porno book. Seems to cheapen the whole thing.
So likes and dislikes

Likes
-How she portrayed the persecution of Christians.
-The two main characters actually had pages of conversation together, so you could see how they fell in love. It wasn't just some "magical glance" and some "knowning BEYOOOND A KNOWING" they were meant for each other.
-As i said, the plot was very good.
-The characters, I could see them perfectly in my mind.
-The dialogue between the characters, it was really funny.

Dislikes
-The story just seemed to go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on....... and on.
-Some of the dialogue was so cheesey i was almost gagging on it.
-There was a lot of WAAAH WAAAAH nooooobody loooooves meeeeeeeeeeee! from the main female character.
-At one point in the story there is a battle between 4 gladiators, which was a total joke because it lasted all of 4 sentences. There was no action to it all. I dont know how she managed to do it, make a fight scene between 4 gladiators boring. That may be somewhat of an accomplishment.

I'm going to read her other books in this series. She's a great writer, I loved her descriptions of roman life, gladiators, villa's, her characters.. it was all very beautifull.
Most of all, i love that she wrote how being a christian was so costly in those times.
