Being a Cleveland-born and bred woman, I tend to stil bristle a bit when my hometown is mocked. I know, I know, the Cuyahoga River burned over 35 years ago, but still. The legend of Cleveland as a City of Misfortune (I have the teeshirt, literally) continues.

Which brings us to Lisa Black.

Her books take place in Cleveland. My Cleveland. The Cleveland I remember and still love. Post-industrial, bleak, heavily Slavic, possessed of a tougher-than-you'd think spirit. The Cleveland of former manufacturing plants now turned into small start up company incubators, of over-worked and under-paid public servants, of kids who dream of geting out, out, out. Of things not always being what they appear to be on the surface.

Thanks to my BFF, Deanna, for discovering Lisa Black, and sharing her with me.
