I did not expect to enjoy this book as it's not really a genre I'd be interested in reading. A bookseller friend of mine insisted, though, and I'm glad I gave in. This is a powerful, often heart-breaking story, and yet it manages to avoid getting bogged down in over-sentimentality or melodrama.

The only slight issue I had was with some of the dialogue. The characters sometimes came across as too smart, their dialogue more like rehearsed, carefully worded speech than like words people would spontaneously say. It didn't affect the story, but it pulled me out of it a couple of times, hence four stars and not the five I would otherwise have given it.

Even if a love story between two cancer-stricken teens doesn't sound like your thing, I urge you to read this book, because it's so much more than even its concept suggests.
