it was amazing

Vida's account of the search for identity is definitely one of the best I've ever read. The details of life in the artic circle are hard to grasp for those of us who have never been there, but her images are beautiful and her combining of the harsh, chaotic present and dreamlike, surreal memory is one that those of us who have lived through the loss of a parent, whether that loss is in life or in presence, can relate to.

I met the author at an event at the bookstore where I work, and so I do have a personal connection, and that, coupled with the fact that he husband (Dave Eggers) is one of my heroes, makes it difficult for me to claim that I am completely objective, but I should say that supporting a local author, especially one who is such a fantastic talent, is something that I'm always happy to do.
