Journalist is hired to investigate an old disappearance, brilliant and antisocial young woman is hired to do some investigating, and together they uncover a sadistic serial killer. PS, sexual violence, cyberhacking, etc etc.

The story is pretty ridiculous, but it's not too tough to ignore the sillier parts and get some enjoyment from the rest. What silly parts? Pretty much everything to do with computers, in the first place -- from the "hacking", to the fact that pretty much all the good people use Macs (described in great detail) and all of the bad people use PCs. The sexual relationships are somewhat distracting, both in the way that it seems that sex and sexual innuendo are the main ways that characters interact with each other, as well as the way that sexual assaults are used as a simple way to mark some characters as evil (some cartoonishly evil) at the same time they are used to titillate (of course, with the explicit understanding that it's OK because of the positive message that rape is bad).
