bookshelves: fiction-horror, fiction-ya

Lively point of view, well-presented central mystery, extremely engaging characters -- this is a great book even before we get to:

GLBT characters
Characters of color
Female protagonist in a story that does not center on romance
Multiple representations of friendship and family

All that, and it was freaking nerve-wracking. I read the book in three flat hours, worried to pieces about what was going to happen. And then the end is a lead-in to the next book, so there wasn't a lot of relief.

If you like tense, well-written action-horror stories about new diseases, this is the next book you should read.
