My friend Kay recommended I read this book and it did NOT disappoint! Joyce Carol Oates has the page-turning gift of taking her audience with her inside the minds of characters so genuine and fascinating that you end the book feeling like you knew the person. In the case of Marilyn Monroe in Blonde, I was haunted for days afterwards with affection and pity for an cultural icon I'd previously dismissed as little more than a glorified name from a bygone era. Read this book.
