Whenever something happens - be it good or bad - Rachel's mom always serves something chocolate. Like when Rachel's parents decide to board Nick McGowan in Year 12. Nick is considered THE hottest guy at the private Christian school they attend in...some Australian city whose name I have apologetically forgotten. But see, he's had kind of a breakdown and everyone thinks he's lost his mind, especially after he pulled the fire alarm at the boardinghouse and got kicked out.

This story had so, so much potential to be better than just okay; in fact during the last ten pages it got really, really good and then it was over. There were parts that were really funny and a quite a few that seemed rather excruciating embarrassing, but that's how life tends to be for teenage girls. In fact, the reason I gave it three stars is because it takes place in 1989! I was 14 that year...and it was one of my absolute favorite years {mostly 'cause I had my first boyfriend}. I've read reviews where they think the author just randomly shoved bits of nostalgia into it, but I thought they fit in all the right places...if anything, I don't think there were ENOUGH bits about the 80's!

The author definitely gets bonus points for including Hollie Hobbie. Ahhhhh, memories...
