Since this book was written, we have consistently ignored many of the lessons Fehrenbach draws from the Korean War. This book is on the professional reading lists for military officers and NCOs, and has been for years. Perhaps it's time to make it mandatory reading for our elected officials, and for the citizens who vote them into office. From gritty, "in the trenches", personal experiences to broad overviews of the US military and society, this book examines what is needed to fight the conflicts of our modern age - wars of containment and policy.
