really liked it
bookshelves: menage

Another solid 4 star read by Cameron Dane. This time a menage between Sarah Tennison, Jace Maxwell and Jasper Simmons. This book had a slightly more gritty feel, which I really did appreciate.

Sarah works at the Sheriffs office as the receptionist and office all rounder really. She's known Jasper since they were both 20, but now they're 24 they are an item finally becoming intimate. Sarah is sweet, caring, loyal and, while a happy person, she worries about her brother's overseas deployment and misses her mother, who died when she was 16.

Jace Maxwell has known Sarah since she was younger and lives with her while her brother Hunter, Jace's best friend, is on a tour of Afghanistan and Iraq. Hunter has assigned Jace as Sarah's guardian as she has no other family. Jace has secretly been attracted to Sarah for a while but is loathe to act on his desires. One night after Jasper and Sarah become inimate for the first time he gets pissed, toey and things start to heat up. He likes the idea of knowing Sarah and Jasper but behaves rudely to cover his jealousies and insecurities. Jace has been involved in menage relationships before and likes the sexual feeling they give him. Jace is a deputy and as a person he tends towards the responsible/intense type. He has a problem controlling his drinking - not an alcoholic but can't stop at one, using it to numb stresses.

Jasper Simmons is a quiet cowboy working on the Hawkins brothers ranch. He became known to readers of the series after being busted smoking cigarettes, being fired for that, then slashing Connor's tyres when laid off. Jasper has come a long way in 4 years and has developed into a trustworthy, hard working, well liked person within the community. Jasper was raised by his deeply religious grandmother, who made sex and sexual feelings out to be depraved.

There is much going on in Quentin with dead bodies, a serial killer, Samuel Simmons menancing his brother, an out of town businessman trying to buy real estate plus an appearance of Sarah's brother, Hunter. Things heat up when Sarah realises and talks to Jasper about the fact that he might just enjoy being with men as well. She likes the concept of a menage that could include Jace, if he sees her more than her brother's young sister. Sarah is definitely a lusty wench, she encourages and gets fully into the menage and taking on two young, virile guys. The sex is good, but for once I felt it got in the way of the plot here. I liked the serial killer apsect of the book and the mystery was a good one, there were a few people that could have been the killer and it wasn't made clear as to who it was until necessary, good writing on that front. I would have liked more on the serial killer and then his interations with Jace.

There is still a solid connection to previous books with Duke, Cade and Ren being involved. Once again another strong read in this erotic series which never disappoints. On to 'Quick to the Hunt'. I live in hope that more come out in this series.

“It feels good to have something to bring to the table,” Ren said. “I will agree with that. But don't
mistake having money or stuff as being the same as being worthy.”
