really liked it
bookshelves: great-books
Read from February 27 to 29, 2012

This book is everything you hope a historical-fantasy novel will be. Young women trained as assassins for the God of death himself. Corruption, royalty, murders, politics, and a sizzling yet forbidden romance.

The political intrigue was so deep and richly layered you could practically chew on it. The twists and turns kept me guessing the whole way through and I kept saying "no way!", which is a testament to how unpredictable the plot line is. For someone who constantly predicts a plots outcome, this book was a breath of fresh air.

The mythology behind the handmaidens of Mortain was incredibly fascinating. I can't wait to learn more and delve deeper in the next two books.

Also, *HUGE SPOILER ALERT* I really hope Sybella's love interest is Beast. Seeing how the first book ends, I think Beast will be her "wounded knight" to book two.

Cassandra Oh my GAH!(view spoiler) It's going to be a long grueling wait.

Amanda I hope so too! I think it would be a sweet romance between those two.
