it was ok
bookshelves: half-read

I was really excited to be sucked away into a hefty series. I was vastly disappointed. This just moves toooooooo slooooow. Maybe it's the fact a virtual world doesn't seem so imaginative as it would have when this book came out, but I've read other comparable books in the last 5-10 years that remain gripping even though their future has started to become reality. Maybe I will try this again in the future, but I doubt it. I loved the aboriginal character and I wanted the real action to get going so I would see more of him. I think it was clear after 300 pages that his background would turn him into some sort of astounding hero in the virtual world, but instead I had to slog along watching Renie play amateur detective. Perhaps I just am missing the breadth and scope of it because I didn't complete it, but I strongly felt that the half I read could have been compressed by at least 50-100 pages.
