This book was suspenseful, and it put you into the shoes of the boy. It faced many adult issues from the perspective of a child. The boy was poor with a sick grandfather, and his whole purpose in winning the race was to get the prize money. He needed it more than anything. It is a story of his determination, and how sometimes stone cold hearts can grow warm. the ending surprised me when i first read it, and also broke my heart. It was neat to learn about the indian man as well and his dogs. This would be a good chapter book for kids to read because it simple and suspenseful. Boys would probably enjoy this book alot since willy is a ten yr old boy.
