This was a good book, save for the inevitable crushing sadness that comes from a story of two terminally-ill teenagers in love. It's particularly interesting in its examination of various cancer cliches: the brave fighter, the inspiration, the young patient who made a difference in the world. Ultimately the young protagonist decides she doesn't want any of those cliches, she just hopes to experience a modicum of happiness during her time on earth. The book is not at all sugar-coated, but is realistic and thought-provoking.
