It was really hard to rate this book. Parts of this book are absolutely five stars, and this is one of the few memoirs where I thought the book ended at a good place, and could even have used a little more around the ending.

However, there are so many absurdly, unnecessarily abrupt transitions, overly repetitive scenes, and dead-end anecdotes, that I found myself wishing I could skim through a lot of it.

The parallels with Sedaris are definitely there, but Burroughs lacks the poignancy and the ability to put a fine point on a scene like Sedaris can (at least in this work).
