Another Georgette Regency mystery. The mystery & the romance both well done. Captain John Staple (mad Jack to his friends) comes upon a toll gate late at night & meets a frightened young boy. His father ,the toll gate keeper is missing. He's soon drawn into a mystery involving stolen money & villains threatening the tall & beautiful heroine. John is one of the most passionate heros Georgette has written about. Nell is aware from the first he has fallen in love with her & kisses are given freely. Maybe a small thing, but pretty frisky for a Regency!
