This is an ok novel by Ian Rankin, though originally published as by Jack Harvey a Rankin penname. It's an espionage thriller and there are cops and characters but it feels like an experiment...an attempt at trying something new. There's an ok plot involving a possible assassination at a G-7 summit, there are some intriguing bits of history and slaps at modern day politics...but LeCarre is better at espionage and Rankin is better at the cop story. One interesting aspect to the book...it was published in 1995 and there is a fair amount of technology in the book that dates so badly...
