I finally read it. Hunger Games was good – and I was determined to make it work for my approbation. Not sure I like this trend for serializing, but you can’t argue with extending the paycheck if you are a commercial success as a novelist, which every novelist hopes to be. I wasn’t sure a book about kids killing kids was for me. I found that the killing was not the point – the book was about survival. Strangely missing was much of an explanation about why the hunger games were staged and it does really strain the imagination that this world could actually exist. But then - oh yes – there was that little something called the Coliseum in ancient Rome… While checking this book out, I actually overheard a mother talking with earnest concern to a librarian about the suitability of fiction in general and this novel in particular for her daughter. Now I am determined to read the rest of the series to strike a blow for common sense and the beautiful freedom of reading.
