Erik Winter is a well-dressed cypher, the youngest police chief in Sweden with many ambivalences, not the least of which involves his pending fatherhood and the death of his own dad, a retiree living on the Costa del Sol. I liked the atmosphere as revealed by the large cast of characters, primary and secondary, as we make our way through the unraveling of brutal double murders with overtones satanic and heavy metal music. Along the way we touch upon swingers, teen misbehavior, child abuse, alcoholism, the turn of the Millennium, and daily life in Gottenburg, The eventual detection is a bit anti-climactic, but the journey was absorbing.
