Another Piece of My Heart is story about Andi, who gets married later in life to a wonderful man who already has two children. The older daughter, Emily, creates problems from the start, but Andi has always wanted a family and thinks that love and patience will be enough. It might not be enough, however, and things go from okay, to bad, then worse. Andi is already dealing with perimenopause in her early forties and unable to get pregnant. Emily's behavior becomes more toxic and Andi finds her husband's refusal to put his foot down and back Andi up more than she can deal with.
Raw emotion permeates the story, and no woman, mother, step-mother, or daughter can help but get drawn in and feel both the pain and the love.
Two reasons kept me from giving this five stars. One, the characters are all a bit extreme in one way or another. Not so much that the book is unbelievable or forced, but still noticeable. The second reason is that the book is told in the first person viewpoint from a variety of characters. I can completely follow the change from one character to another. However, a few parts here and there switch to the third person and it seemed out of place.
