it was amazing

Read in January, 1978

As a child, I loved this book, and the illustrations. I was fascinated by the life Mary led--from India to Victorian England, two equally exotic locales--and the development of her character. I wanted to meet Dickon myself, and I was so impressed that her maid encouraged her to skip rope. I liked jumping rope! I was just like Mary! And the end, while probably too maudlin for sophisticated tastes, was just right.
