This is a 147 page monologue that is essentially a summation of Camus' existential/absurdist philosophy. There are a lot of exciting ideas here but though the book is short, it is dense and I found myself struggling to keep up with the pace of the writing. Ultimately, I found the stakes underwhelming and the narrator's "fall" anticlimatic. For me, it's an issue of style, rather than theme, as Camus has proven a masterful writer in his previous works.
