This book is hands down my favorite of Roald Dahl's books so far. I have read about five of Roald Dahl's books and The BFG is a story in which is close to my heart. It is a story in which a friendship is formed between two people who couldn't be more different in appearance. Both characters overcome such enormous problems and those difficulties is what connects them and ultimately forms a friendship.

Another reason why I enjoy this book so much is because every class that I have read it to enjoys it so much as well! I teach students that come from low-income families and they often can identify with the characters in the story because they are similar problems. The giant has a speech impediment and Sophie (the main character) is an orphan and many of my students can connect with these difficulties.

There are many teachable moments in this book. The friendship between Sophie and the giant is so heartwarming. There are a couple times when she catches herself almost making fun of the giant for his speech impediment but then the giant discusses with her about how he taught himself how to talk. She ends up apologizing many times and I often talk about this in class. We write journal entries on it and how would we react in the same sort of issue.

I would recommend for many teachers to read this book aloud, you will fall in love!
