Despite his tendency toward violence (much of it directed at himself) you can't help but like Moses McGuire, Stalling's protagonist. Sure his world view is bleak, but yours would be too if you'd been through all the shit he has. And he's no reluctant hero--Moses jumps head first into the hunt for the killer of the one woman he considers a friend. He might've even been in love with her, not that Moses would allow himself to be loved back. Not at first, anyway.

Moses is fearless, which makes him a powerful ally and an even more formidable opponent. He's a flawed knight in shining armor, but a knight, just the same. All of this makes him lots of fun to read, and I can't wait to read the next book in the series, OUT THERE BAD.
