Picked this one up on the recommendation of Felicia Day... didn't realize it was the fourth in a series. It doesn't read quite like a serial to me, I didn't feel like I was missing something; it is a very self-contained novel. I don't know much about the French revolution, just from school and The Scarlet Pimpernel. This book was so evocative of revolutionary France. Something about the dialogue and characters was SOOO French to me. Marguerite has just the right blend of haughtiness, desperation, and passion to be believable as a Frenchwoman. Reminded me of Casablanca. Doyle and Hawker were just excellent, wonderful characters. Haven't enjoyed a historical romance like this in a long time. I'll have to find the others in the series!
