This is what my mother would have called "a nice book,"and I suppose I would, too. These books are my guilty pleasure, by authors such as Fannie Flagg, whoever it was who wrote "Step Ball Change," EF Benson (although much more sophisticated than the others), Miss Read (who wrote a type of peculiarly English book in which absolutely nothing happens), Jan Karon (more religious than I would usually choose). This is about a Southern widow learning to depend on herself after a shocking truth comes to light about her husband. Lots of humor, some slapstick set pieces, but overall a pleasant way to spend an afternoon.
