Meh. It was all right. Hard for me to see why other reviewers got so excited about it. Sure there was some torture porn. But that was the value of it. It was abuse heaped on abuse. There was very little of psychological interest to me. People sometimes do bad things because they can. Is this a new concept to anyone who has heard of the holocaust, or virtually any atrocity in history? Stephen King loves this guy, but I read this and "Red" and neither impressed me, either in sophisticated story-telling or interesting prose. Sure, it's dark and an easy read, but there's no intellectual heft or even real chills.
