There are times when I feel like this book, this series for that matter, is just going through the motions. It repeats itself far too often, too many characters sound the same, and I just never really feel this group is ever really in danger. But in every single book of this series there's always a section where it just becomes soooo good and impossible to put down and this one was no exception.

Although I do appreciate how compact the books are, and how much of a quick read they can be once you get going, I do think this was a story that could have been told in fewer books. Especially since in this entry the titular lost fleet is no longer lost, they're home at the end, yet there's still one more book to go? Why? Why not just start a sequel series (which the writer eventually does)?

The ending just rubbed me the wrong way, and I hope the final book doesn't end up feeling superfluous because of it.
