I began reading this with trepidation due to a lot of negative reviews I read - no romance, more urban fantasy, too many characters, to many NEW characters (particularly new "species' of PN's), etc. Well, I loved it! It may not be the same ratio of romance to adventure or an awful lot of character development, but you have to admit that it's head and shoulders above most of the new stuff out there to read! It saddens me when someone says "that's it - no more Ward books for me ... too much of a departure from romance ... not enough of the other Brothers or their spouses ...". I feel each book is a separate entity ~ almost a stand-alone ~ and we really have no idea what "formula" she'll use in her next novel. Maybe another couple's story will be more loving, passionate, whatever. She's given us so much ~ and so many characters ~ to think about, imagine and fantasize about in the meantime, and I, for one, will buy the next one and savor it slowly, the way I did this one, and appreciate it as a fine work of fiction ~ whichever genre you choose to stick it in!
