 I love to read. I tell people that I will read just about anything! Part of the allure of reading different books in differing genres, at least for me, is the range of feelings these books evoke from me. Reading “The Art of Sensuality” by Jax Cassidy brought a mélange of feelings out in me. The author’s style is very languid and dreamy which complements the feelings of her characters.
 
 Machiko, or Mac, was a famous child prodigy artist until she had a nervous breakdown at the ripe old age of 13. She hasn’t painted since…until now. After 9 long years of denying herself, she’s slowing emerging from her self-imposed isolation. But something is still missing and try as she might, she just can’t seem to identify what it is. Her pain and fears as she tiptoes from her hiding place are at times overwhelming and this comes through with an almost visceral reaction in the reader.
 
 Caleb is a very successful businessman and art enthusiast. He is strongly drawn, almost against his will, to Mac. He’s not sure why as she is at times, unkind, unwelcoming, and unfriendly. BUT, she can’t help but respond to him; and seems to resent him all the more for it. He’s confused, attracted, and angry, but always lustful. 
 
 As the two grow closer, secrets are revealed and each becomes better able to understand and accept the actions of the other. But there are many obstacles in their way. From the agony of artistic expression to the pasts neither one has quite managed to let go, they are tested. Will they be able to forgive and forge a new future?
 
 Cassidy’s writing is often lyrical, sometimes confusing, and always sensual. Very like the stages of the relationship between these two characters. Without the growth of both individuals, and the help of some ably-drawn secondary characters, a relationship would be impossible. And this process is well depicted through an almost visual dialogue.
 
 If you are looking for a sweet story with a trademark plot and little angst, this is not the book for you. If you want to travel through a relationship that deals with the vagaries of human nature and relationships, along with a VERY healthy dose of sensuous erotica, then don’t hesitate to buy this book.
